IJMB means Interim Joint Matriculation Board. IJMBE Registration is offered at SEN, It is an approved nine months advance level program moderated by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. By the federal government of Nigeria and it is certified by Nigerian University Commission (NUC). IJMB is designed to solve admission menace of candidates as an alternative mode of gaining admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria into 200 level via Direct Entry (D.E) without UTME/JAMB and other related modes of entry.
Admission into higher institution in Nigeria has been an unending issues as students await UTME year after year hoping the next UTME might be the possible solution to their admission related issue, however, national estimation has shown that UTME is not the best alternative for securing admission stating that only 20% of the annual UTME candidates ends up securing admission successfully with the Post UTME as Post UTME has been proved to be another barrier to securing admission into university, this simply means yearly, only 320,000 out of every 1,600,000 JAMB(UTME) aspirants gain admission successfully, however it has been proven that IJMB is best alternative.
IJMB is an approved 9 month programme by Federal Government as a platform for securing university admission into any university in Nigeria and abroad with various Study Centers Nationwide, IJMB is purely designed to serve as an alternative to university admission, as it requires neither JAMB nor post UTME, and also awaiting result candidate can apply. All it requires is your o’level result be it WAEC, NECO, NABTEB etc (5 credit one sitting, and 6 credit two sittings). On completion of the programme, Candidates therefore use their IJMB result to secure admission into 200 level in any Nigeria university via Direct Entry. IJMB is presently accepted in 80% of Nigerian Universities, It has been estimated that 80% of IJMB applicants scores over 6 points annually and 70% uses it as their gateway into 200 level. The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was established in 1976 by the Interim Common Services Agency (ICSA). ICSA itself was established by the government of the old Northern Region of Nigeria to provide educational and social services to the people of the region. The first Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) was held in 1977 for all students who had undergone the IJMBE post secondary education program in the existing schools of Basic/ Preliminary studies which had replaced the HSCE.
Presently IJMB now serve as an Advanced Level Examination which guarantee candidate admission into 200level. The Board is administered by the Institute of Education of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Other members of the board include representatives of various education institutions such as Joint Admission Matriculation Board; Federal University of Technology, Minna.
